Artificial Intelligence and IoT integration in tracking and monitoring devices

Many sectors of various industries have benefitted to a large extent by using IoT and wearables in conducting their business activities. Consumers who use this technology have also reaped their advantages.  IoT and wearables help in tracking location using GPS, monitoring efficiency levels of machines and vehicles, enabling geo-fencing which sets up boundaries for vehicles, keeping an eye on the internal health conditions of vehicles and many more.

One of the latest developments to happen in the field of IoT and wearables is its integration with artificial intelligence (AI). There is a very close connection between IoT and Artificial Intelligence. IoT collects data from machines and uses the data generated to give decisions, whereas AI involves bringing about intelligent behaviour which will record the daily patterns of the devices after which the data gathered is analysed to make the decisions. Hence, artificial intelligence is being used in IoT and wearables for making the devices smarter and more intelligent. The different ways in which IoT and AI are being integrated include –

  1. Healthcare

IoT and wearables are being used extensively in the healthcare sector for monitoring the internal health conditions of patients like a heartbeat, pulse rate, blood pressure, oxygen and blood sugar levels, weight, and ECGs.  AI is being integrated with IoT and wearable devices in order to get more precise and accurate information based on the daily health routine of the patients. AI-enabled IoT and wearable devices detect changes in the daily pattern of the patients’ health, which helps the device in giving warnings and also providing timely advice to the patient for taking the appropriate remedies for the same.

For example in the case of people who have breathing problems, the normal breathing patterns of the body are observed and stored by the AI sensors on a daily basis. AI-enabled IoT devices will be able to detect variations in the same in real-time and also send the information to the respective personnel quickly. Hence, instantaneous medical information can be given to doctors and patients without any delay.

  1. Fitness and sports

We all are aware of fitness bands which are available in the market, that help people track calories consumed, heartbeat, distance walked or run and also the quality of sleep. The latest development in these fitness trackers is their merger with AI. Artificial intelligence-enabled IoT and wearable devices have sensors that record the routes and this data stored by the AI sensors on a daily basis, is then used to give accurate directions to the person wearing the device.

Time taken by that person for everyday walking or jogging as well as exercise is also monitored by the AI sensors and when the time is reduced or increased as compared to the normal routine, an alert in the form of a voiceover is given by the device to the person. This is useful for motivating and encouraging the person to not break their daily fitness routine.

  1. Fleet management

Fleet management is a complex activity which involves organising and conducting various interconnected activities. For the purpose of ensuring ease in managing the fleet, AI-enabled IoT and Wearable devices have been developed. These devices have sensors which constantly track the standard routine of the various fleet of vehicles that includes distance travelled, engine health, routes taken (using GPS), and many more inter-related activities.

AI sensors keep track of each one of these activities and using the data collected and stored in the system, the devices give out accurate and timely information about every stage of the fleet of vehicles. This helps fleet management companies to ensure more automation and smartness in handling their fleet.

The integration of AI with IoT and wearable devices will bring about a significant revolution and efficiency in the activities of various industries.
